Define Your Needs So You Can Get Back to Work

Last November marked the highest number of workers resigning from the workforce ever, at a record rate of three percent or 4.5 million people. Call it “The Great Resignation,” “The Great Re-Evaluation,” or “The Great Renegotiation.” Whatever we name it, the truth is, Covid stopped the world in its tracks almost two years ago, and since then, employees have taken a professional pause for a variety of reasons.

The employment landscape has shifted drastically from an employer’s market to a jobseeker’s market. YOU, the jobseeker, are in control, so it is important to ask yourself the following questions as you determine a smart approach to your return to work:

  1. What is most important to me now?

  2. What skills/strengths do I want to use more of in my job?

  3. What industry am I curious to learn more about?

  4. Do I need extra training or upskilling?

  5. What type of work environment will best suit me (remote, hybrid, or in-person, and what safety protocols need to be in place)?

  6. What do I need from my employer so that I can be most productive?
