Youth Opportunities and Mitzvah Projects
"Hope is in the Bag" Food Drive
“Hope is in the Bag” makes it simple to hold a food drive in your school, church/synagogue, or neighborhood. Bright green reusable shopping bags are provided for participants to fill with nonperishable food items. Each bag includes a tag with instructions, deadline, and the current most needed food items for our Weinberg Food Pantry.
Assistance for Refugees and People in Crisis
Plan a mitzvah project or school drive that will make an immediate impact on our community. Please contact us for specific guidelines. Ideas include:
Purchase food and fill Ziploc bags with the ingredients to prepare an entire meal.
Buy bulk diapers and rubber band them in packs of six.
Purchase and pack full-sized toiletry and hygiene items in quart-sized bags.
Assemble nutrition packs for transitional clients with foods that can be eaten on the go.
Purchase a 25 or 50 lb. bag of rice, and measure 2 cups of rice into individual quart-sized Ziploc bags.
Purchase and pack household cleaning supply kits for newly arrived members of the community.
JFS at the JCC Lunch Assistant
Share quality time with older adults in our community by serving hot lunches at the JCC. Offered Monday-Friday, it’s a meaningful way to spend a few hours on a summer day or school break connecting with a group of fascinating people and learning their life stories. (Available to youth ages 12-17.)
