JFS Helped Clients Get Out the Vote

Last month, JFS led a nonpartisan voter initiative to provide clients with the information and resources they needed to vote. This included distributing flyers translated into three languages to Weinberg Food Pantry clients and calling older adults and clients with disabilities to discuss their voting plan, help them register to vote, and offer to safely pick up their ballots and drop off at ballot boxes. Among those we helped were older adults with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) which made reading and completing their ballots in the safety of their own home very difficult. Marienne (94) is pictured dropping off her ballot.

We helped an 83-year-old woman who uses American Sign Language register to vote for the first time in her life! Our staff delivered the paper registration form to her to fill out and we returned it to her county Clerk and Recorder’s office. We followed up to ensure that she received her ballot and then delivered it to a ballot box!
