JFS partners with Ridwell to help newly settled families

We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Ridwell to access gently used items such as pots and pans, dishes, winter jackets and more for our resettlement clients.

What is Ridwell?

A beloved pickup service with 100,000 households across the US. Ridwell was started by a dad and a son on a mission to dispose of their households batteries and lightbulbs responsibly. Today, it is a community-based, social purpose organization that helps people waste less by identifying recyclable and reusable items that the city doesn’t collect, picking them up from Ridwellers’ doorsteps, and matching them with national and local partners that can use them sustainably. Members have diverted more than 20M pounds of waste from landfills so far.

How it works:

➡️Members receive Ridwell bin with labeled bags

➡️Fill Ridwell bags with batteries, lightbulbs, plastic film, and threads (as well as add-on and rotating categories)

➡️Drivers collect full Ridwell bags every two weeks and replace empty bags in bin

➡️Collected items are recycled or reused by local partners dedicated to wasting less
