JFS Altius Farms is making an impact throughout the community

JFS Altius Farms is dedicated to supplying our community with locally grown, environmentally friendly greens as they empower veterans and contribute to the fight against hunger. In our latest spotlight, let’s learn about what our Altius team is working on now.

Currently, there are two main expansion projects underway at JFS Altius Farms:

  1. Tower Garden Height Extension: In only 10 weeks, the team has executed a comprehensive plan to adjust seeding, transplanting, data input, and operational changes to the farm. Along with the planning and preparation phase, they have adjusted LED lighting, installed horizontal fans for adequate airflow, and extended 75% of the 345 towers 15”—all of which will allow for an approximate 20% increase in product yields within the exact same square footage of space.

  2. Addition of Culinary Mushroom Cultivation: Concept approval has been secured from the City of Denver for two controlled environment shipping containers. The Farm Boxes will be located in our existing outdoor garden space and will have the capacity to produce 400 to 600 pounds of mushrooms per week. We anticipate that mushroom production will begin this summer, and the mushrooms will be available to our restaurants, grocers and customers.

Produce from JFS Altius Farms is sold to local restaurants, grocery stores, and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) members, donated to JFS’s Community Resources for Stability food programs, and JFS Altius Farms’ partnering organization Boulder County Farmers’ Market.

Many of our Altius Farms restaurant clients are among the top restaurants in the Denver area. We are particularly proud to share that three of our restaurant clients were Michelin-guide nominated in Colorado recently: Tavernetta, Potager, and Dio Mio.

We hope you’re enjoying our JFS Altius Farms spotlights.  Next up, we’re excited to share information about the team!

This farm presents an opportunity for job creation, job training and volunteer programs. JFS Altius Farms will continue its partnership with Veterans to Farmers providing hands-on training to their cohorts.
