Do a Little Good
At JFS, we couldn’t help our neighbors thrive without our volunteers—both within the agency and throughout the community.
In our last fiscal year (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022), 2,877 volunteers donated their time, which equaled 19,456 hours of service to help in all areas of the organization—and we could not be more thankful for that! It’s not an exaggeration to say that our volunteers are one of JFS’s most valuable assets!
Volunteers come in every day ready to make a difference and give back to the Denver and Boulder communities. Delivering much-needed food and supplies to homebound adults, becoming a buddy with an adult with intellectual and developmental disabilities, creating a friendship with an older adult to prevent social isolation, helping clients select items in our food pantry, and so much more are vital to an individual’s well-being.
Here are a few of our current Denver volunteer needs:
Donation pick-up drivers
Description: Support the Yana Vishnitsky Refugee Resettlement Services program by safely transporting donations from collection sites to JFS storage. Items will be used to make a house a home for our refugees. Volunteers must be 21 and older.
Commitment: Seeking 1 to 2 volunteers to help every Wednesday from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.
Process: Provide proof of auto insurance and current driver’s license, and we will conduct a background check. If interested, email Marissa or 720.459.3878.
Best Buddies
Description: Make a difference in your life and your community and join the Jewish Family Service Citizens chapter of Best Buddies International for adults in their one-to-one friendship program. In the JFS chapter, Jewish adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) become buddies and are matched with Jewish neurotypical adults who become their peer buddies. When you become a buddy, the lasting friendship that develops helps to reduce the social isolation that is frequently associated with individuals with IDD.
Commitment: Flexible. A commitment of at least six months preferred.
Process: Background check and CAPS check. Ages 21 and older.
Our volunteers’ efforts can be seen and felt throughout the organization and community daily, and we are so thankful for their commitment. If you would like to join our volunteer team and make a difference in someone’s life, visit our Volunteer page to learn more about our opportunities and apply.
