Refugee Resettlement On-Call Support Volunteer
Support newly arrived clients to meet their basic needs. Volunteers can sign up for tasks such as delivering items to clients' homes, transporting clients to appointments or to purchase food and clothing, supporting clients with obtaining their state IDs or applying for social security cards, providing community navigation support such as visiting local libraries with clients or practicing riding the bus with clients, and assisting with airport pickup to help clients get settled after their arrival.
Commitment: On-call/as needed. There is no firm time commitment for this volunteer position. Volunteers can choose to volunteer for just this position, or they may opt to volunteer in other capacities at JFS and receive Resettlement Support Team emails with on-call volunteer opportunities. Tasks typically fall during weekday business hours but can also include evenings and weekends, particularly for airport pickups. Frequent last-minute emails requesting volunteers is the norm.
Additional Requirements: Background check, driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. Ages 18 and older.
