December Volunteer Spotlight: Community Table Delivery Drivers

December Volunteer Spotlight: Community Table Lunch Delivery Drivers

The JFS Community Table lunch program brings older adults together for a warm meal and good company at the Denver Jewish Community Center (JCC). This program provides a free lunch while helping keep participants connected and engaged with their community by providing a fun and enriching environment.

The Community Table Lunch Delivery Drivers have the important task of ensuring hot food is delivered to these lunches weekly. This includes picking up the food at Shalom Park, delivering the meals to the JCC, and returning the empty Cambros to Shalom Park.

Currently, we have eight volunteers supporting this program. Community Table Lunch Delivery Driver Gary had this to share when asked about his volunteer experience:

  • Tell us about yourself.

    • I am semi-retired and enjoy volunteering when my family commitments allow me to do so.

  • What volunteer role(s) do you have with JFS and what roles have you had with JFS in the past (if applicable)?

    • I have delivered food to home bound folks, I have volunteered at the pantry doing such things as stocking, helping people with selection of items, cart retrieval and other duties needed.

  • What motivated you to begin volunteering with JFS and how long have you been volunteering with JFS?

    • The need is great, the rewards are satisfying.

  • What's your favorite part about volunteering with JFS and how has being a JFS volunteer impacted your life?

    • I am doing something useful and helpful with my time.

  • What would you say to someone who's thinking of volunteering with JFS?

    • You will not regret it.
