Thank you to The Giving Trust, an incredible group of philanthropic Jewish women, for donating funds to JFS’s Weinberg Food Pantry and our COVID-19 Relief efforts. Member Roberta Ritvo shares more about why they made this donation:

“It was a last-minute decision to present the Weinberg Pantry to The Giving Trust members as one of five options for the yearly donation when we met mid-April 2020. At this time, the impact of the pandemic was becoming clearer to everyone as we entered the third week under stay-at-home orders. I was moved by the stories I was hearing about lines at food pantries across the country as people's ability to support themselves and their families was yanked away without warning and through no fault of their own by the pandemic.

The news these days alternatively makes my head hurt and my heart hurt. Others in the Trust were similarly moved by the opportunity to direct their funds in a way that would have a direct impact on people in their moment of hardship around one of life's most basic needs.

The Weinberg Food Pantry was the obvious choice among Colorado's food panties for The Giving Trust for a few reasons. Most importantly, we knew that JFS would make the money go far and that our donation would be converted into more food than if each member spent the same amount at the store and then donated our purchases. We also knew that JFS had seen huge spikes in demand and were impressed with the steps being taken to expand service and do so safely. We appreciated the holistic nature of the offerings, which include diapers, hygiene products, and pet food. Finally, The Giving Trust is a group of Jewish women and we felt an affinity to JFS with its history as an organization started by Jewish women almost 150 years ago.”
