Emergency Assistance Program - Providing a Safety Net of Support
The Emergency Assistance Program (EAP) provides limited financial assistance and case management to Denver area families and individuals. The immediate goal of EAP is to prevent homelessness for those seeking JFS’s help. EAP serves individuals and families who are at risk for homelessness and for whom assistance and case management will make the difference between remaining in their homes or becoming homeless.
Persons who participate in this program must:
• Have an income at or below a specified poverty threshold, based on grant requirements.
• Offer proof that months of “back rent” are not owed to the landlord.
• Provide identification, proof of income, a lease, and landlord information.
• Indicate realistic plans for payment of next month’s rent.
Jewish Family Service (JFS) receives over 200 calls per month from Denver area residents seeking emergency assistance.
• EAP staff return every phone call received – when JFS is unable to provide direct support (due to ineligibility or lack of funding) to a caller, staff helps these individuals and families understand and access the resources available in the community.
• All clients who receive financial assistance meet with a case manager to review a budget, resources, and plans for the future.
• Beyond meeting clients’ immediate need for emergency financial assistance, EAP serves as a single-point-of-entry for other services at JFS. These services include the Weinberg Food Pantry, counseling, holiday programs, and school supplies.
In addition, a Denver Human Services (DHS) case management coordinator is available at JFS each Wednesday and Friday from 9:00am – 3:00pm through a program called DHS@JFS. Qualified Denver County residents may receive help with:

• Medicaid
