Mental Health Services for New Americans - Helping Ease the Stress of Your Transition

Through our Counseling Center, we offer school-based and individual counseling to help refugees and immigrants adapt to life in a new place. Our therapists are able to help clients attain not only psychological stability, but physical and personal stability in terms of work, school, family relationships, and adaptation to a new culture.

International KidSuccess
International KidSuccess helps refugee and immigrant students adjust to life in their new land by providing mental health services in the school.  Services include adjustment groups, consultation services, and psychological education. We also provide teacher training, parent education, and information and referral.  The main goal of this program is to facilitate cultural adjustment and address social-emotional needs.

Currently, International KidSuccess helps hundreds of refugee and immigrant students in elementary, middle, and high schools in the Denver and Cherry Creek School Districts.

Refugee Mental Health Services
The Refugee Mental Health Program at Jewish Family Service is a holistic approach in providing accessible and affordable mental health services for underserved and/or uninsured refugees who have resettled in Colorado. The program is staffed with highly-skilled, multilingual, and culturally aware psychotherapists who specialized in treating people from diverse backgrounds with mental health needs. The psychotherapists work as a team, as well as in collaboration with other organizations in the community to provide wrap-around services for refugees, thus addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Services are available on an affordable sliding-fee scale, based on income. We accept most insurance plans, including Medicaid.

The ultimate goal of the Refugee Mental Health Program at Jewish Family Service is to assure the stability and the mental well-being of refugees at all times.

Services offered by The Refugee Mental Health Program at Jewish Family Service include:

  • Outpatient Counseling Services: We provide individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy in-office setting and in the community in order to accommodate our clients.
  • Outpatient Psychiatric Services: We provide psychiatric level services to our refugee clients that require more in-depth medical attention.
  • Language Services: We provide interpretation and document translation services to refugees with no or limited English.
  • Advocacy: We provide psycho-education outreach in order to remove the barriers to health care and to break the stigma of mental health for our clients. We address their symptoms, concerns, problems with medication, and mediate between providers and patient with the goal to help them become advocates for their own health care.
