Community Life Programs - Collaborating for Change, One Person at a Time
Community Life programs are designed to create change – on a small scale, one person at a time, and on a broader scale within the community at large. Whether it is assisting one family with summer lunches for their children, managing the administration of a federal grant for the metro area, or educating youth in our community, the goal of this program is to support positive change.
Community Life programs include:
Lunch & Learning: A Summer Lunch Program for Children
Lunch & Learning provides low-income school-age children summer lunches for nine weeks. Besides feeding the body, the program also feeds the mind by offering a reading program that culminates in an end of summer picnic.
Bright Holidays: Individualized Holiday Gifts and Baskets
Families, seniors, and individuals are “adopted” by community volunteers and donors (schools, religious organizations, corporations, and individuals) who supply personal and individualized gifts for Hanukkah or Christmas from client “wish lists.”
Back-to-School: School Supplies for Students
For many children who live in families at risk, starting the school year with new or even adequate school supplies may be out of reach. Through Back-to-School, students between the ages of 5 and 18 are offered a selection of new school supplies – each child chooses his or her own favorites (as available).
FSN Youth Corps: Service, Learning and Leadership
Through this program, teens experience the importance of volunteerism and community participation, and learn firsthand about the very real needs faced by the homeless and the hungry in our community. Opportunities include working in the Pantry, sorting food in the JFS garage, organizing neighborhood food drives, creating a video about hunger, etc.
Emergency Service Providers Network (ESPN): Homeless Prevention and Advocacy
ESPN is a collaboration between Denver Human Services, Catholic Charities, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, DenUM, and Jewish Family Service that was developed to centralize information, assistance, and research.
Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP): Community Grant Administration
A $1.3 million federal grant managed and administered by the Family Safety Net Program for the metro Denver area.
Internships: An Opportunity for Social Work Students
Developing practitioners and advocates for the community.
