JFS Citizenship Training - Helping You Achieve the American Dream

Our citizenship training provides refugees with the formal education, one-on-one tutoring, advocacy, language translation, and general support needed for people to become citizens of the United States.  Two of the major components of this program include:

Education

• We offer nine classes, twice per week, each running an hour
and one-half long. These classes are offered year-round at
our administration building in Tamarac Square.
• Our curriculum consists of English as a Second Language and
  United States History and Civics.
• The time a student participates in these classes before taking
the citizenship test ranges from eight classes to two or
  more years.

Support

• We assist with the completion of the N-400 U.S. Citizenship
  Application.
• Our staff helps translates documents and interviews between
potential citizens and Immigration and Naturalization
  officers.
• We advocate for medical certification for disability exceptions
and fee waivers especially for seniors living on low,
  fixed incomes.
• Through our Refugee Mental Health Program, we provide
  counseling and mental health services.
