Thank you to our 600+ dedicated volunteers!
I want to take this opportunity, for National Volunteer Week, to celebrate and thank all of you. Volunteers are the backbone of JFS and we could not provide services to more than 23,000 people each year without your invaluable support.
The theme for National Volunteer Week, commemorated this year on April 10-16, is “Celebrating People in Action.” The theme captures the meaning behind this signature week - honoring the individuals who dedicate themselves to taking action and solving problems in their communities.
Whether you give several hours a week or an hour a year, your time and effort are truly appreciated! Last fiscal year, 661 volunteers contributed more than 24,800 hours, which is a total value of $517,257 -- that’s an average of 477 hours per week! While what you provide is immeasurable, we want you to know what a difference you make – both to enhance people’s lives and to help the agency’s bottom line. Below are a few examples of how your dedication helped our agency last year:
- Our Pantry volunteers distributed over 564,000 pounds of food to people in need.
- The volunteer Para-chaplains led 384 holiday and Sabbath services in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and prisons.
- 52 Friendly Visitor volunteers provided 5,672 hours of companionship and transportation to seniors.
- 16 volunteers helped in our office for 1,900 hours, lending their organizational skills and accounting expertise.
With gratitude,
Yana Vishnitsky, JFS president & CEO
