Thanksgiving Gratitude

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

Thanksgiving Day in America is a time to offer thanks, of family gatherings, and holiday meals. A time of turkeys, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. A time for Indian corn, holiday parades, and giant balloons.

There are many ways to celebrate and express thanks at Thanksgiving. Even in difficult times, there are always things for which to be grateful such as:

Please leave comments about what you are thankful for on this holiday!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

I am thankful for all of the wonderful work that nonprofits do in the community to bring about equality, change and growth.

I am thankful every minute of my life that I wake up in the morning looking forward to the day, that I live and think and love. I am grateful that I have a loving family, a fulfilling job, wonderful friends and the best staff. It is a lot to be thankful
for and I don't take it for granted.

I'm grateful that I enjoy coming to work each day--that I work with such a wonderful group of people, both staff and board/committee members. I'm also thankful that my sweet mother is still with us and that I get to see her frequently. I'm very grateful
for the internet and how it keeps me in constant contact with my beautiful daughter who lives in Chile. I'm also grateful for the rest of my family and friends and the important part they play in my life.

I am thankful for insulin that keeps my son alive. I'm thankful for the researchers who are working hard to ultimately cure diabetes. I'm grateful to my husband who, although out of work and struggling now, has provided so well for our family for so many
years. I'm appreciative of the 2 fine young adult children we have raised. I'm thankful for our pets who remind us daily that 4 legged creatures are sentient beings. I'm thankful for a dear friend who has encouraged me to become vegan and to my allergist who
set the tipping point and I no longer consume any animal products. I'm thankful for every person who supports Israel as a Jewish nation and strives for peace at the same time. I'm ever so thankful for my loving mother-in-law who is taking our entire family
to Israel, as this is her dream, and we will all share in the miracle of standing in Jerusalem together. I'm thankful for a brother who is truly an angel on earth. And I'm thankful that our parents are still alive, and B"H well, and empowered to learn new
things at ages 84 and 88. I'm thankful for my friend who has down syndrome and instant messages me daily so we can discuss politics and acting and other interesting topics. I'm thankful for all the elderly and cognitively impaired persons I work with every
day for bringing joy to my life and for being a family/community every day we are together. Thanks for the opportunity to share some of my gratitude.

I'm grateful for my friend Shira in Denver, whom I met in Jerusalem in 1976, and has never let the miles minimize our friendship for one second.
